Sigmund Freud, the father of Psychology, propounded the concept that how Madonna Whore complex develops in a man’s mind. A man with Madonna Whore Complex may have grown up with a cold, distant or inattentive mother. His need to get his mother’s care and affection as a child is later projected onto his wife. He might even look for a woman with similar characteristics to his mother. His similarity of attitude between his wife and his mother leads the man to lose all sexual desire for his wife. He would not think of his mother in a sexual manner, thus, the mother of his children becomes non-sexual to him as well.
Both the partners in a Madonna Whore complex marriage may not understand why their relationship is such an unhappy one. He loves her but he doesn’t want to be sexually close to her. She loves him but she is increasingly bitter because he won’t give her the sexual intimacy she desperately needs. Infidelity may be the result of their marriage, as he seeks sex with acceptable “whores.”
The first step for men dealing with a Madonna Whore complex is to accept that all women are sexual creatures. The division between “good girls” and “bad girls” is concept pre-historic. A woman who has sex, enjoys sex, radiates sexuality and is still a woman who is quite capable of being a caring and nurturing parent. Similarly, the girlfriend or wife you love is still a sexual being; the fact that you’re in a relationship or put a ring on her finger doesn’t mean that she doesn’t still crave the wild sweaty wild sex the two of you used to have in the early days when you burned through every flip of your CD folder.
Keeping the passion in your relationship alive can be difficult, but trying to limit yourself by some foolish idea of respect is only going to make it fade faster.
