Pokémon GO Mania
Pokémon GO mania : The latest version launched on July 6, 2016;
Within two days of its launch, this was present in 5% of the android devices world over. Within next few, it became the fastest growing mobile game beating all previous records of games like Clash Royale. US alone has 21 million users and that too just within few days of it’s release. The average daily use exceeded that of Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, tinder or WhatsApp. Tokyo stock exchange was booming with 50% rise in the shares of Nintendo, the company holding this miraculous game, thus increasing its valuation to approximately $14.5 billion. The over flooded traffic led to frequent server crashes. What else can this be termed other than a mania.
The Pokémon GO Mania has turned into a social phenomenon. People are wandering outside late night in search of a squirtle or meowth. People are willing to walk kilometers to hatch the fictional eggs. Has the smartphone really made people so stupid! The dimension of obsession is such that news reported guys missing their final exams, someone leaving his expecting wife at hospital bed, few others bumping face to face via web while on hunt or some others reported weeks of continuous play at the cost of sleepless nights.
Any thing which has the potential to outpour the emotions out of the masses is bound to succeed. The main cause of this huge response was the online platform which makes possible, the real time interaction with nearby people. This hits the increased sense of self, potential friends and greater level of interaction. The public response was natural as the game appeals directly to the need and desire of the users. People go around neighborhood, cities or even countries looking for Pokémon. This makes people connect one another with shared experience.
At a time where the planet seems divided into so many factional political and nuclear units, Pokémon GO gives a unique sense of commonality of interest and personality. Thank you Pokémon GO !
