Freedom from red tapism, freedom from inspector –raj and self declaration will be the call of the day. Easy licensing and permissions online, foreign direct investments in several new sectors and increased slabs in many others- all these are definitely creating a positive entrepreneurial niche, luring our youth to start new ventures. Some have already started; lot many are in planning phase. Before jumping into a desired rail, it’s much necessary to know about one’s own aptitude as far as transformation into a successful entrepreneur is concerned. I course I agree- Where there is a will, there lies a way! But at least one should try to study the common personality characteristics of all the successful entrepreneurs and try to imbibe them.
An entrepreneur is as a person who engages in energetic expansive business activity rather than short run efficiency or accumulation of wealth in liquid form. They have high need for achievement and a tendency to set high standard of excellence & work for the achievement of these standards. They take moderate and calculated risks. This risk taking behavior is meticulously directed towards accomplishment of goal that they have set for themselves. High need for power is another basic common criterion of all the successful entrepreneurs. It is found that entrepreneur have high need for power and they fulfill this power need by controlling others and deciding the course of their lives. A sense of efficiency is abundant in their aura. This implies that they a have confidence in themselves and about their capacity of action. They are problem solvers and not problem avoiders and have high personal resourcefulness which implies that they approach every situation with intention to get the best out of that situation. They are very good time managers. They live in present though they draw inspiration from past and think about future with optimism. They are very skilled in devising strategies that can enable them to come up with new inventions that can give them an edge over their contemporaries. They are flexible people and don’t hesitate to implement new ideas, if they are convinced that these ideas are likely to bring success. They are open to feedback and learn from experiences. They prefer independent functioning and have difficulty in working in conformist settings. They have Internal locus of control i.e. They believe that they are the cause of events and can shape their own destiny. Low need for affiliation is another characteristic of these people. They are not tied emotionally to many people. Even when they make friends they don’t lose sight of the goal. They follow flexible leadership style. They have the capacity to mold the leadership style according to the demand of the situation as they have high eco social maturity. To begin with, they follow the nurturing task oriented style and when the organization is fully developed and people are in capacity to assume responsibility, they place it with a democratic style. Optimistic outlook is a must for success. Whenever they take up any activity, they take it up with all seriousness and with hope of being successful in it. They are more driven by hope for success than by the fear of failure. Entrepreneurs have highly competitive orientation but they also collaborate well with other parties when they feel that such collaboration is likely to benefit them. Respect for labor is necessity for cordial business relations. They respect all people who are capable irrespective of their job profile. They themselves show keenness to do any kind of job whether blue colored or white colored. They work hard and expect same from their subordinates. They set high work standards for themselves. Long term investments are made with the tendency to invest their profits in the ventures with the intention of expanding them. They are therefore empire builders. They have above average intelligence, good communication skills. realistic level of aspirations and take personal responsibility for both success and failure. They are intuitive and want to make money. They are self centered and low on social orientation. Entrepreneurs are self respecting people.
Business can never be a profession. It’s a passion. Unless there lies a craving desire, the desire above all others, the devotion superseding all other demands and the under lying meticulous planning- one cannot boomerang!
