PM Modi’s silence at Baba Ramdev’s zeal

An article penned by Miss Shobha de has been published in the Times of India. In this article, Miss de has appealed to PM Modi to break his silence and condemn Baba Ramdev who is a business man more than a Baba, for his statement in which he has expressed his desire to behead crores of people who do not chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Miss De is a wise and intelligent writer enjoying respect of innumerable right thinking people, but she seems to be unjust to PM Modi.

The prime minister of a country is a very busy man. He has to attend to a large number of problems and to meet a large number of people in respect of his official duties. How can he be expected to react to every statement issued by the members of his party or issued by mischievous people like the so called Baba. It is the duty of the spokespersons of the BJP, or party functionaries to condemn the statement which are against the party line and thus to restrain the big mouths of the party such as Yogi Adityanath, Sakshi Maharaj, Ram Shankar Kataria and many more who violate party discipline and embarrass the party leadership.

It is the duty of the disciplinary committee of the party to take action against such elements and thus to restrain them. But the problem is that the party has not will strong enough to restrain its big mouths. So they go on issuing damaging statements without fear not only embarrassing the party but vitiating the atmosphere of the country by disturbing peace and normalcy in the country. Consequently, the PM has to face the charge of reticence. He keeps silence to maintain the gravity of his post while his reticence is misunderstood as his deliberate attempt to ignore the misdeeds of his party men.

On the other hand, there is Baba Ramdev, who regards it as his birth right to speak on every subject whether he has its knowledge or not. He speaks without thinking about the result of his remarks. The situation worsens when he doesn’t realize his mistake even after protest and refuses to withdraw it. He goes on defending it obdurately. His statement that he would behead crores of people who do not chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai is highly inciting and condemnable. He should be punished for making such an objectionable statement which may disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the country.

Why does Ramdev often make such damaging statements? The reason is that he is not an educated man. No doubt, he is an expert in yoga and has good knowledge, but his lack of knowledge in other fields has narrowed his vision and made his intellect myopic. But his success in Yoga and Ayurveda has heightened his confidence level so much that he considers himself capable of interfering in every field. By business tactics, he has amassed huge wealth and thinks that he is above law. The favor of the present government and the government agencies has enhanced his obduracy so much that he has gone beyond control.

The government should set up an enquiry to probe whether the products of his Patanjali yoga Sansthan are within norms of the law and he is paying various taxes properly. There were various charges against Baba Ramdev during the regime of the UPA. He supported the NDA during the elections. After election, the BJP withdrew all the charges against him and favored him unduly. The government should withdraw these favours, enquire into these charges against him and punish him severely if he is found guilty. Only such harsh steps will make him realize his foolishness and will bring him down to the earth of reality.
