Dismal performance of Indian Team at Rio Olympics
Such a Big Contingent, Such a Dismal Performance of Indian Team at Rio Olympics.
We are proud of P V Sindhu – a winner of Silver Medal in Badminton. We are proud of Sakshi Malik – a winner of Bronze Medal in Wrestling. The whole nation is grateful to them for making Bharat Mata feel proud.
Deepa Karmakar though could not achieve any medal yet she won Fourth Position in Pole Vault. Shining performance of her because India took part in this game for the first time.
We are proud of these players and cheer them at their spectacular performance in the Brazil Olympics Rio De Janero. But what about other 116 players who have compelled us to remark such a big contingent and such a dismal performance. When Ms. Shobha De raised objection at the size of the Indian Contingent, a large number of people condemned her for demoralizing the players by lowering their confidence, but she proved to be right. Why did this fiasco occur? Who is responsible for poor show? If we analyze the situation rationally, we find that the main reason of regarrison in sports is the government’s apathy towards sports. The facilities provided to various streams of sports and sportsmen are insufficient. There is extreme shortage of funds, studio, and infrastructure which is necessary for the development of sports.
The problem with our country is that we talk much but work little. We are braggart and hypocrite. We talk about the development of many streams of sport but we work to pamper only cricket. No game is as popular as cricket in our country . Every boy wants to be Sachin Tendulkar, M S Dhoni, Virat Kohli or Gautam Gambhir. Only a few youths desire to be Prakash Padukone, Milkha Singh or Abhinav Bindra. They are not familiar even with their names.
Corruption, favoritism and nepotism are other main causes of stagnation in the field of sports. Instead of given chance to new talents, sports officials go on [supporting old faces who monopolize their field and do not like to encourage new corners large amount of money to be spent for sports development is siphoned by corrupt sport officials.
The present Olympic games have presented two interesting facts which are disturbing as well. The first is that our Sport Minister Sh. Vijay Goel accompanied the Indian Contingent which is unprecedented. Mr. Goel got a chance to enjoy a foreign trip and watch Olympic events live. But instead of encouraging Indian Sportsperson he enhanced their embarrassment by his misdemeanor because Olympic Authorities had to admonish him several times for his misbehavior. The second fact is that only female members of the Indian Contingent could show off their talent on the field. No male member could distinguish himself with the display or his shell and talent. The males of India have failed utterly though they claim to be superior to women in every field. Perhaps they can only show their skill only in staging violent, demonstrations, and committing crimes against women.
How can this pathetic situation in field of sports be improved? How can we perform better and win Olympic Medals in proportion to the size and population of our country? To achieve this goal, we have to make our sports free from corruption and favoritism. We should provide better infrastructure and facilities for our sportspersons. We should give proper and equal attention to all streams of sports not only to cricket. All the games should be made popular not only in urban but also in rural area. Only then our big contingent will be able to perform better. Only then we shall be able to serve our country from being a laughing stock which made Piers Morgan, a British TV presenter remark “A country of 1.2 Billion widely celebrates two losing medals. How embarrassing is that! “
