Religion of Mind
Religion of mind is a mystery to understand. Man is the only animal for whom, his own origin and existence is a problem, which he tries to solve everyday. The only solace he finds regarding the puzzle is the theory of divine intervention; God being the ultimate source and destination for life.
Human being has the tendency to idealize and idolize. God being the ultimate ideal gets idolized, aspired, feared, loved and seen as the final solution to every problem encountered in due course of life. HE remains the super mentor in every stream. There are occasions like divorce, serious illness, unemployment or a reckless child when one feels extremely insecure; during such occasions, one finds the strength and solace in his religious belief. With churning of subconscious, one develops a course of action which he attributes to the divine power in order to keep confidence intact in the idea formulated.
Religion is about submitting everything you possess to the ultimate self. This frees your conscious and sub-conscious from the burden of responsibility. This is a learned disposition which the individual learns through parenting and conditioning. Children as young as 3 years are found to have the concept of eternity and omnipresence of God. Another sociological role what the religion plays is that it provides the otherwise unrelated individual with a common group identity. This gives them a reason to behave good among the group members.
Anything can’t be good unless there lie the existence of bad. Ram without Ravana would lack the divine charm; Krishna without Kans or Jesus without Pontius; The whole religious idea is based upon the two shades of morality.
Likewise, an individual will loose his mobility if he finds everything right in the environment. So, they have the tendency to find something which is wrong/unethical/anti-religion. In such pursuit, one gains his religious and political identity. Hence, this is not strange idea for the political parties to misdirect the religious identity of the masses to gain power. People fight wars, commit genocide in the name of being right.
The true idea of religion is all about openness of thought and empathy. The purpose of religion is to control one’s own thought and behavior in the positive manner. Your belief doesn’t make you a better individual, your behavior does so. Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false and by the ruler as useful.
