The Secret to Happiness
Happiness is a state of mind.
It is the result of contentment. That is the reason why man is sad and dejected in the midst of opulence and affluence. Man runs after luxuries to attain happiness, but he fails. His failure increases his anger, depression and tension. All this is reflected in his relations with the members of his family, friends, colleagues and his behavior. In depression, he turns towards drinking and drugs, but still fails and commits suicide.
There is a close relation between health and happiness. One cannot be happy unless one enjoys good physical and mental health. To have good health, one should be positive in his attitude and behavior. One should avoid negative feelings like envy, greed and hatred. Remember that none can be happy by disliking and harassing others. If one wants to be happy, one should love and help others. Hate begets hate while love begets love. One gets what one gives.
Happiness is the result of contentment. If one is not contended, one can never be happy. It is good to be ambitious, but to be overambitious is always the retarder to happiness. One should be thankful to God for what he has given. Do not wish for what you don’t deserve. Know your limitations and be contended.
To be happy, one should have firm faith in God. Believe that whatever God does, it is for our welfare. He tests our mental and spiritual strength by difficulties.
Nothing is permanent- neither the hard time nor the pleasant time. Accept them with humility without complaint because ‘who bears His mild jokes serve Him the best’.
One should never act against the voice of his conscience under pressure. Resist pressure and oppose injustice because to give in to tyranny is as bad as to be tyrannical.
Happy citizens are very necessary for the prosperity and progress of society and country. Peaceful atmosphere is not possible without contentment and happiness and development is impossible without peace. So happiness is must for individual as well as the society and country.
