Satyamev Jayate 2
In the first part of Satyamev Jayate various kinds of truth had been described with their effects. Now I have decided to deal with other aspects of truth. Undoubtedly Truth is Brahm. Truth is God and God is Truth. For John Keats “Beauty is Truth; Truth Beauty “because beauty as well as truth signifies God who is Truthful, Beautiful and Beneficial.
But we live in 21st century where it is almost impossible to find truth in its original form. Only prophets like Muhammad and Christ could dare set out on the journey to find out truth, and achieved their goal. In the 20th century it was only Mahatma Gandhi who experimented with truth. We do not know whether he succeeded in his effort, but we are common people. We can’t claim to realise God or truth though many of us specially politicians claim to have realised the truth, but instead of realising truth, they have realised post-truth.
Now the question is what truth and what post-truth are. Truth is based on facts while post-truth is the mixture of fact and fiction. Truth doesn’t change while post truth changes in accordance with our imagination, prejudices and feelings. Once, our former prime minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee remarked that the politicians speak the truth, but they serve it in the form of chart with the mixture of chili sauce and spices because pure truth, though effective, yet it is not charming to enchant and ensnare people.
The first example of post-truth is found in the Mahabharata. When after the death of an elephant named Ashwathama, Yudhisthira who was believed to be truthful shouted that Ashwathama had been killed but he did not know whether he was a man or an elephant. The latter part of his remark became inaudible in the noise made by the sound of the conch shells blown by Pandav warriors. Consequently, Dronacharya gave up fighting and was killed. Yudhishthira was aware of this conspiracy and still spoke this post truth, due to which his chariot that moved above the surface of the Earth began to move on it.
The latest example of post truth is the statements of various BJP leaders who claim that the exercise of demonetisation to be successful. They claim that demonetisation has wiped out black money. Instead of wiping out black money, demonetisation has changed its form. Now black money has been transferred to foreign banks or it has been converted into Gold, precious jewels or invested in realty sector. Their second claim is that the demonetisation has curbed terrorist activities which is totally false because terrorist activities are still continuing. The BJP leaders say that after demonetisation FICN will be reduced but this is continuing in India itself by unethical people.
It is very difficult, troublesome and painful to follow plain truth, and only King Harish Chandra was capable of doing it. He had to undergo extreme suffering for it and as a result of this his fame still survives which has made him immortal. Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation who only experimented with truth has also become immortal. So we should aim at speaking pure truth and not post truth because Satyamev Jayate
